"Most of the kids used the measuring cups, spoons, and scales, but didn’t do any measuring unless they were prompted by parents. We also had some bowls and spatulas for play cooking, and some kids measured how big the cooking bowls were using the measuring cups."
Go to linkA Chicago-area library used the Early Math Collaborative’s Foundational Math Concepts to create a day of math fun, games, and activities for children ages 3-6.
The facilitators of this event created several stations with different games and activities, organized by which math concept they featured. Some of the activities included comparing your height with the height of different animals, and constructing tangram puzzles.
Their reflection on the day contains several other ideas for activities that you could recreate in your home own or classroom. We’re excited to see these rich math ideas worked into such fun activities.
