In this video from NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children), Executive Director Rhian Evans Allvin describes their new white paper about developmentally appropriate practice within Common Core State Standards.

The Common Core has been a point of contention since its inception. Many are concerned that the Common Core is part of the ongoing trend to make high-stakes assessments a norm in early education. At the same time, as the paper states, “developmentally appropriate practice does not mean making things easier for children.
